June's Pumpkin Bread

  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 2-2/3 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 lb can pumpkin
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 3-1/3 cup flour
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1-1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon & ground cloves
  • 2/3 cup chopped nuts
  • 2/3 cup raisins
Icing (optional)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 stick butter/margarine
  • 1/2 cup canned milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla


Heat oven 350 degrees, grease two loaf pans 9 x 5 x 3. Cream shortening & sugar. Add eggs, pumpkin & water. Blend in dry ingredients. Stir in raisins and nuts. Bake for approx. 65 minutes.

Optional Icing Directions:
Boil two minutes [hard boiling]. Remove from heat and beat until it begins thickening. Spread on top of cooled loafs.

Temp: 350°
Bake Time: 65 min. (approx)
